Take 1-3 minutes and go out to your garage door. Look at the tracks. On the horizontal tracks near the ceiling, are there two springs - one on each side?
If so, you have extension springs. Here is where the safety comes in.
In the attached picture, you can see my finger pointing to a cable that runs through the extension spring.
Do your extension springs have this cable running through them?
If not, you have a major safety risk.
What the safety cables do is keep the extension spring from going flying if/when it breaks.
It's very common for garage door springs to break (one of the most common garage door repairs).
When they break, they can go flying violently throughout your garage because of all the built-up tension. This could lead to severe injury to you, your family, your vehicles, or any other valuable item in your garage.
If you can't tell whether you have the safety cables, or you need them installed, reach out to us. We're happy to help.
